How do I get started/choose a program?Step 1: Explore Volunteer Opportunities to learn more about our programs and find the one that works for you! Not sure which program to choose? City of Eureka staff would be happy to meet and go over options in more detail. Contact Empower Eurekato schedule a meeting. I've you've got a unique idea/skill set not covered here let us know! We need you! There is also no limit to the amount of volunteer work you can do. Step 2: Complete and submit a City Volunteer Application below. Step 3: Volunteers will be contacted once the application has been reviewed to determine if their selected program has additional requirements, such as training and/or additional forms. **If you will be working witrh children or security then you MUST be fingerprinted by the Eureka Police Department and cleared with the Department of Justice before beginning volunteer service (at no cost to you).** Step 4: Once the application is complete and approved you will be contacted! Then you'll be an official part of the people-powered team of Eureka!

How much time to I need to commit to being a volunteer?It depends on your schedule! There are both short and long term volunteer opportunities from a one-time experience or a few hours on a Saturday morning to a weekly commitment for the span of a season or year.

Who can be a volunteer?ANYONE wanting to make a difference in their community, regardless of ability, location, (residents from outside Eureka are welcome!) race, ethnicity, gender, age, etc. Individuals and families *Youth (ages 5-12), Teens (13-17) and adults of ALL ages. Businesses and business organizations Community and civic groups, schools and faith-based organizations *Please note, volunteers under 13 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, unless enrolled in a specific youth volunteer program. Volunteers under 18 years old must have their parent/ guardian sign a waiver before they begin volunteering.

I need volunteer hours for school or court-ordered community service. Can Empower Eureka help me fulfill this requirement?Yes! Upon completion of volunteer hours, Empower Eureka would be happy to verify your hours. Once you've found a program of interest, fill out the City Volunteer Application.

I am part of an organization who is interested in volunteering. How do I sign up my organization?Thanks for wanting to collaborate with Empower Eureka. Complete and submit a City Volunteer Application. Be sure to select the box, “Organization/Group,” and include your organization name.

I want to donate to Empower Eureka, what will my donation be used for?"Donations to Empower Eureka range from providing our volunteers the tools and resources needed for their projects, to supporting scholarships for underprivileged youth and donations to the Sequoia Park Improvement Fund. I cannot physically volunteer but I am interested in being involved with Empower Eureka. What else can I do?It's not just about showing up and lifting things. Volunteering includes being a voice, whether its speaking at city council meetings to making phone calls from your home to sharing your experience. And investing in a cause you believe in, whether its funding a grant or buying a drink at one of our community events. We are here to find the best way to allow you to offer your strengths to the city.
