Join UPLIFT Eureka's Emergency Warming Center Volunteer List
The City of Eureka partners with the Eureka faith-based community to open low barrier Extreme Weather Overnight Warming Centers and ensure those most vulnerable in our community have a warm place to stay during inclement weather. Inclement weather can include times of high winds, significant rain, and freezing temperatures. In addition to City of Eureka staff and members of the faith-based community, the warming center relies on community volunteers to operate from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m during inclement weather.
By uplifting individuals in need, together we can benefit & strengthen our entire community.
How Are Volunteers Scheduled?
During extreme weather, the Eureka Police Department Dispatch will contact all community volunteers who have signed up to assist with the Warming Center operations via text. Volunteers who are available can then correspond with EPD Dispatch to schedule a shift time.
We hope to collect a large pool of volunteers to supplement the church's volunteer capacity in times of prolonged weather events, and ensure there is enough volunteer coverage to maintain the shelter's operations.

Examples of Volunteer Duties Include:
-
Setup and breakdown of sleeping areas
-
Greeting community members entering the Warming Center
-
Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment
-
Coffee service
-
*Volunteers will not be responsible for providing transportation
